École Communautaire Gilbert-Rosset, in La Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (DSFM), was created in 1998 when a group of local parents bought the first three building modules and started their own school in Saint Claude. Additional portable buildings were added in 2001, 2002, and 2008, with all but the last portable connected with an interior link. The schools current enrolment is around 50 children and fluctuates between 40-75 children from kindergarten to Grade 12. Each portable is one room classroom with combined grades of 2 to 6 students per grade and had previously used the towns english school's gym for physical education.
La Division DSFM engaged Prairie Architects to evaluate alternative methods for construction of a gymnasium addition and related ancillary space and concluded that a conventional concrete block approach suited a long-term Phase 1 investment with a future phase to replace the existing school’s grouping of interconnected wood-frame constructed buildings. The school addition includes a gymnasium and ancillary spaces for the gym, such as change rooms, a gym office, equipment storage, a small library and interconnected resource / guidance room, a kitchen, new public washrooms for the whole school, and a 2nd floor mechanical and electrical room. The scope of work also included renovation of the existing administration office and staff room. The project was successfully completed ready for the 2024 school year.
