In order to accommodate larger airline carriers with modern passenger check-in, screening, boarding, luggage and arrival services, the Brandon Municipal Airport has undergone an expansion and redevelopment of its aging 1970’s building. In the multi-phased approach that Prairie Architects Inc. developed, the first order of business was the design and construction of a new 9,300 s.f. addition to the east of the existing 5,400 s.f. terminal, which maintained ongoing operation throughout subsequent renovation phases. The addition provides an expanded Arrivals Hall, a larger baggage-handling facility, modernized check-in facilities, and baggage claim areas, complete with luggage carousel. The renovation of the existing terminal not only implemented energy efficiency improvements, it also critically added a separate security screening area operated by The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and secure Departures Lounge, complete with amenities of modern airports.
