Prairie Architects is pleased to have contributed to the Pollard family’s vision of building new housing for the protection of vulnerable homeless populations with mental health or addiction issues in Winnipeg’s Centennial neighbourhood. The development of the 3 Storey Ellen Ross Community Housing Complex will include:
47 micro-suites for independent living, that addresses a broader vision and seeks to accommodate a significant community need in a different and new permanent housing approach;
on-site counselling and support programs;
welcoming, safe and accessible community meeting and gathering space (including outdoor space and round room);
fenced landscaped yard with an outdoor patio and community garden area for tenants;
a commercial kitchen and common dining area offering tenants a meal program; and
A building that achieves 52% reduction in operating energy consumption.
This is all done in a community centred environment that promotes healing and wellness in community programming spaces. EllenRoss Community Housing ultimate goal is to build a home for its residents, one the that is safe, secure housing on a housing-first philosophy and is a source of pride in the Centennial neighbourhood.
